Introduction

The Keysight nanoVTEP probe (E4333A) is the latest vectorless test solution from Keysight. The entire hardware assembly, including amplifier, has been miniaturized into a single probe, capable of performing vectorless testing on devices with a geometric outline as small as 4x4mm.

The Challenges in Printed Circuit Board Assembly Testing

PCBAs in a fixture undergoing in-circuit test have hundreds, and up to thousands of test probes pressed against their electrical contact points. This generates a substantial amount of mechanical stress that is being countered by installing pressure fingers onto the fixture to minimize board flexing.

With denser board layouts, test engineers find it increasingly challenging to have sufficient clearance within the fixture to implement vectorless test techniques that detect open signal pins with capacitive coupling through a sensor plate.

How the Keysight nanoVTEP addresses this problem

Developed with advanced manufacturing techniques, Keysight’s nanoVTEP is 60% smaller compared to existing solutions in the market. Its small profile increases the opportunity to implement vectorless testing in a high-density fixture, thereby increasing coverage and fault detection rate in the test process

Key Features / Benefits
  • Supports device geometries as small as 4mm x 4mm, the smallest vectorless test probe in the market,
  • Less on-floor space required with 60% smaller footprint compared to other vectorless test products
  • Increased both test coverage and fault detection with miniaturized test probe that overcome placement challenges in high density fixtures
