Keysight Technologies Introduces Bandwidth Enhanced InfiniiMax III+ Probes, Accessories for High-Speed Bus Testing

SANTA ROSA, Calif., Feb. 26, 2015

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today introduced the bandwidth enhanced N7000A InfiniiMax III+ differential probes for general-purpose, high-speed differential bus probing. The company also introduced an active termination adapter that provides ultra-low noise voltage termination to a non-ground signal, and QuickTip accessories for InfiniiMax I/II probes to help engineers make quick and reliable measurements.

The InfiniiMax III+ probes work with the full array of InfiniiMax III probe heads, including a wide range of solder-in probe heads, a browser head, ZIF (zero insertion force) tips, 2.92-mm/3.5-mm/SMA heads and the QuickTip head. These probing solutions complement the new Infiniium V-Series oscilloscopes with its revolutionary industry-leading performance, accuracy and ease of use.

Keysight’s InfiniiMax III+ probes offer InfiniiMode technology, which greatly expands the measurement capabilities and usability of the probe, making it capable of measuring all the components of a differential signal. With a single connection, engineers can set the InfiniiMax III+ to measure the differential signal, the single-ended A or B signals, and the common-mode component of a differential signal.

As with InfiniiMax III technology, the unique S-parameters of each InfiniiMax III+ probe amp are stored in the probe amp and are used with the S-parameters of the various probe heads. This further flattens the magnitude and phase response of the probe for higher accuracy.

To date, most oscilloscopes with 50 ohm inputs terminate to ground. However, some communication system standards, such as HDMI 2.0, DisplayPort and MIPI M-PHY Gear 3/4, require the 50 ohm termination to a voltage rather than to ground. The Keysight N7010A active termination adapter is a 30 GHz single-ended adapter featuring a user-adjustable common termination voltage (VTERM) and extremely low noise performance. The oscilloscope can internally control the termination voltage to keep it between -4.0 V to +4.0 V. Utilizing low attenuation ratio setting (1.16:1), the adapter enables extremely lower noise floor.

For high-speed signal probing, solder-in probe heads are commonly used. Unfortunately, solder-in probes are not the ideal solution when it comes to moving around multiple test points on a target board. The N2851A QuickTip probe head for InfiniiMax I/II provides the industry’s only quick connect/disconnect capability when measuring multiple high-speed test points. The QuickTip design uses three small, gold-plated magnets as the actual contacts to gold-plated steel buttons on the probe tip. Engineers can install multiple N2849A probe tips on a device under test, allowing quick and reliable measurements of many probe points.

“Keysight believes we must innovate on multiple fronts to provide insight for our customers,” said Dave Cipriani, vice president and general manager of Keysight’s Oscilloscope and Protocol Division. “Simply moving ahead on a banner spec doesn’t help them. That is why today, Keysight is introducing a family of oscilloscopes and probing solutions that deliver new capability while improving ease of use.”
