SANTA ROSA, Calif., Oct. 29, 2015
Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today announced it will collaborate with China Southeast University (www.seu.edu.cn) to research test and measurement technologies for 5G Massive MIMO. The work will accelerate research progress of the Massive MIMO related algorithms, system design and antenna technologies; and will enhance 5G core research in China.
Massive MIMO uses a large numbers of antenna elements, working coherently, to generate steerable signal beams for multiple simultaneous users. Massive MIMO is a challenging, but very promising new technology for 5G mobile communications. Massive MIMO promises to improve spectral efficiency, increase capacity and improve energy efficiency.
"Southeast University is one of China's major research institutions on 5G and Keysight is an internationally renowned test and measurement equipment company," said Professor Hong Wei, Dean of the School of Information Science and Engineering, China Southeast University and the director of State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves. "Both organizations will cooperate on 5G Massive MIMO system research measurement technology that will promote the development of 5G research."
"This is another example of our work with a leading research institution in 5G Wireless," said Yan Zhongyi, Keysight Greater China vice present and general manager. "This collaboration represents a win-win for Keysight and China Southeast University. We are excited to be part of this critical 5G research."
The research collaboration is based on China Southeast University's advanced Massive MIMO technologies and is supported by Keysight's University Relationship Research Program. This research will help Southeast University address test and measurement issues in Massive MIMO's system design and implementation. It also will allow Keysight to accelerate and deepen technical insights in simulation, test and measurement methodologies of 5G Massive MIMO, specifically the massive antenna array and multi-channel phase shifters' calibration and measurement.
About the Southeast University
Southeast University (SEU) is one of the national key universities administered directly under the Central Government and the Ministry of Education of China. The State Key Laboratory of Millimeter Waves (SKLMMW) was established relying on the state key discipline of Electromagnetic Field and Microwave Technologies in Southeast University. The core research team of the SKLMMW is formed by the members of Chinese Academy of Engineering, Cheungkong Professor, Cheungkong Chair Professor and an IEEE Fellow. The lab has formed research features and advantages on Artificial Electromagnetic Materials and Computational Electromagnetics, Millimeter Wave and THz Theory and Technologies, RF and Antennas for Wireless Communications. In recent years, the average annual published papers are greater than 60 in Science, Nature Communications, IEEE Transactions, PRL, APL and other well-known international journals. The lab has network analyzer, spectrum analyzer, signal source and chip test platform to 1.1 THz, the quasi-optical test equipment to 3.5 THz, and a far field and near field chamber to 110GHz. The lab also has a variety of EDA software, including Keysight ADS.
