Keysight's Expertise in Photonic, High-Speed Test, EDA Tools Enables Photonics IC Ecosystem

SANTA ROSA, Calif., July 31, 2015

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today announced its participation in the new American Institute for Manufacturing Integrated Photonics (AIM Photonics). Vice President Joe Biden formally announced the creation of the new manufacturing institute in Rochester, New York on July 27. Dr. Douglas Baney, Keysight Labs, was among the invited guests.

The AIM Photonics has $610 million in federal, state and private funds available to focus on developing a U.S.-based end-to-end integrated photonics ecosystem. This includes domestic foundry access, integrated design tools, packaging, test and workforce training. Integrated photonics, where light photons are directed and controlled inside tiny mass-produced chips, called photonic integrated circuits, are expected to have a wide-ranging impact on the emerging 5G wireless communications, long-haul telecommunications, data centers, defense and medical technology.

"As a member of the institute, Keysight brings its expertise in photonics and high-speed test, as well as EDA design tools, said Dr. Douglas Baney, Keysight Labs. "We are pleased to assist the institute in its goal to enable a national scale photonics IC ecosystem. This will improve the competitiveness of U.S. industry and help prepare the nation's workforce to tackle the technical challenges of the next generation."
