Highlights:
- Provides measurement procedures for compliance testing USB Type-C cable assemblies in time and frequency domains
- Supports the USB Type-C™ Specification, version 1.1 and Compliance Test Specification, version 1.0
SANTA ROSA, Calif., April 27, 2016
Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today announced the availability of a new Method of Implementation (MOI) document for cable assembly compliance tests defined in Rev. 1.1 of the USB Type-C specification and Rev. 1.0 of the USB Type-C Compliance Test Specification (CTS). The USB Type-C MOI, together with a test package such as Keysight's state file, works with the M937xA PXIe multiport vector network analyzer to provide the compliance test solution for USB Type-C cable assemblies. This step-by-step guide of measurement procedures for time and frequency domains simplifies compliance setup and testing.
Driven by the demand for more bandwidth, high-speed digital standards continue to evolve to higher data rates. The 10-Gbps USB 3.1 specification delivers more than double the practical data rate compared to the current 5-Gbps USB 3.0. This increase in data rate, results in even tougher requirements for the physical layer to ensure interoperability. One of the measurement challenges for such high-speed digital cable assemblies is to perform the multiport measurements.
Keysight's M937xA PXIe Multiport VNA provides true multiport measurements with full N-port calibration and an inherent frequency domain measurement capability. For the USB Type-C cable assembly tests, engineers can configure the M937xA to support 12-port measurements—from 300 kHz to 15 GHz—to generate an s12p touchstone file that engineers can analyze using the USB-IF compliance tool. By generating an s12p file using the VNA's 12-port configuration, the frequency domain measurement time is drastically reduced to just 20 seconds.
"Keysight MOIs are available for a number of different high-speed digital applications, such as HDMI, Ethernet and PCI Express," said Akira Nukiyama, vice president and general manager, Keysight's Component Test Division Kobe. "Our newest addition to this list, the USB Type-C cable assembly MOI, is yet another example of how we are working to give our customers the functionality they need to address high-speed measurement challenges and create a faster path to done."
The new USB Type-C cable assembly MOI for use with the M937xA PXIe multiport VNA is available now at www.keysight.com/find/pxivna_usbtype-c-cabcon. Images of the M937xA PXIe multiport VNA, 12-port configuration, and USB Type-C cable assembly measurement results are available at www.keysight.com/find/PXIeVNA_TypeC_images.
About Keysight PXIe Multiport Vector Network Analyzer
The Keysight M937xA vector network analyzer is the world's fastest PXI VNA, featuring a full 2-port VNA in one PXI slot and support for multiport measurements from 300 kHz to 26.5 GHz. Relying on the same measurement science as Keysight's trusted PNA and ENA VNAs, the PXIe VNA delivers measurement accuracy comparable to a box VNA with greater than 114-dB dynamic range, less than 0.003-dB trace noise and 0.005-dB/degree stability. In support of future multiport measurement needs, the PXIe VNA can be expanded up to 16 VNA modules in a single chassis, enabling up to 32-port, fully corrected multiport measurements.
