SANTA ROSA, Calif., Feb. 24, 2017

Keysight Technologies, Inc. (NYSE: KEYS) today announced that it has begun working with Huawei on phase II of the China 5G Technology R&D Trial. Using its industry-leading UXA N9040B signal analyzer and 89601B VSA signal analysis software, Keysight has conducted the first integration tests with Huawei's 5G prototype base station. The tests cover numerology, frame structure, and new waveform in the 5G new radio (5G NR).

Led by the IMT-2020 (5G) Promotion Group, and fully initiated in January 2016, China 5G Technology R&D Trial involves the operators, system equipment manufacturers, chip manufacturers, and testing service providers. The tests are divided into three phases—key technology verification, technical program validation, and system program validation. Phase I tests were successfully completed in 2016.

Phase II of 5G Technology R&D Trial started in the second half of 2016 and is focused on the verification and validation of wireless air interface and networking technologies used in the four major 5G scenarios, 1) continuous broad coverage, 2) hot spot high capacity, 3) URLLC, and 4) massive connections. The tests have already started and are scheduled to be completed by the end of 2017.

Keysight Technologies actively supports the work of the China IMT2020 (5G) Promotion Group and actively participates in the discussion and development of test specifications.

"This is another example of Keysight's global 5G work," said Roger Nichols, Keysight's 5G program manager. "We are committed to working with global industry leaders to ensure smooth 5G development and deployment in China."

In the Phase II Testing Plan, scheduled for this year, Keysight Technologies will participate in the RF and functional test items in the seven major test scenarios. These include numerology, frame structure, new waveform, coding schemes (such as Polar Code, LDPC) and more.

Keysight Technologies is working with the world's leading operators, system equipment manufacturers and chip manufacturers to collaboratively accelerate and promote key 5G technology innovations.
