The Keysight M8194A arbitrary waveform generator (AWG) offers a unique combination of speed, bandwidth and channel density. With sample rates up to 120 GSa/s and output frequencies up to 50 GHz, Keysight’s AWG enables signal generation up to 100 GBd on 4 channels simultaneously, with femtosecond channel-to-channel synchronization. As a result, Keysight’s AWG delivers a new level of stimulus performance for coherent optical interconnect and flexible wideband modulation scheme requirements.

Transmitting large amounts of information through optical channels has driven the rapid rise of coherent transmission, as well as the need to generate and analyze complex modulated optical signals. Multi-channel arbitrary waveform generators are typically used to synthesize complex modulated signals, but require performance capabilities beyond the signals being generated.

Coherent optical and high-speed serial links are driving the test need for:

• Stimulus for testing coherent optical interconnects e.g. using 64 GBd / 64 quadrature amplitude modulation (QAM) and higher
• Products and components with high speed serial links up to 100 GBd
• Stimulus with flexible modulation schemes (NRZ, PAM-4, QPSK, QAM-n and others)

Designed uniquely to meet the requirements of 64 GBd/64 QAM and 100 GBd PAM4, the M8194A is specially addresses coherent optical and multi-level/multi-channel digital signal requirements. The M8194A is currently the fastest AWG from Keysight (120 GSa/s), delivering the highest bandwidth and best ENOB for cleanest signal generation. In addition to best-in-class instrument performance, the M8194A offers flexibility, without complexity, in single or multi-channel operation.

For systems requiring a stimulus with flexible modulation schemes (NRZ, PAM-4, QPSK, QAM-n and others) at highest speeds, the M8194A provides:

• 1, 2 or 4 differential channels on a 1-slot AXIe module enable optimized channel density
• 120 GSa/s sample rate
• Arbitrary signal generation with frequency contents up to 50 GHz
